National D.A.R.E. Day

April 8th, 2009

April 8th is national DARE day. What better way to SAY NO TO DRUGS than through a free, yes FREE, BrainPOP video about Drug Abuse. Students can watch the video, complete the quiz online (on the SMARTBoard), or you can print the quiz ahead of time. There is also a fill in the blanks activity and experiment.

Incorporate it into your writing by having students write explanations about drug abuse or persuasive letters outlining why you should never touch a drug.

Perhaps you could make art posters saying no to smoking or alcohol.

For me, I also teach social studies and we are talking about traditions and celebrations. So now i’ve covered Language, Social Studies, Art in this one simple lesson.

How could you make it cross-curricular?
