Infrared IR Pen Has Arrived!
April 23rd, 2009
Well, it arrived yesterday. Apparently customs held it for a while to determine the strange contents. I have to agree, a marker with a light on one end and a battery on the other, with a switch, does look suspicious. Whatever the case, my old useless Pentium 3 computer is now a touch screen! As previously mentioned, using a Wiimote, bluetooth and infrared light, you can control the mouse on your computer.
Today and tomorrow, my computer club will project the computer image onto the wall and test the accuracy of the IR pen and Wiimote to determine the feasibility of making a homemade interactive whiteboard.
(Ours is the slick blue expo marker.)
Hi Brian
These look neat! They certainly save on having to make your own IR device. Would be interested to know how the pen worked?
Patricia
They were ordered from wiiteachers.com. If you google Johnny Lee or homemade whiteboard, you’ll likely see a schematic diagram. We considered making our own but the price was about the same to order.
Hi Brian, congratulations on getting the Johnny Lee wiiboard to work. We made our own IR pens as well, but one of our colleagues purchased the touch-activated IR pen. Apparently it makes a world of difference.
I figured it would be a difference. We priced the parts at The Source and didn’t think there was enough of a savings to make one.
